In the first part of the movie the soundtrack was excessively intrusive, but later on remarkable performance of the main character played by little known actress Krisha Fairchild made me forget about it. Krisha has recently told her relatives that she is now reformed and sober, and that she wants to visit on Krisha attempts to reconcile with Trey, expressing a desire to be part of his life again. Shults leaps around visually, from the nephews wrestling in the yard, to Krisha tearing the kitchen apart looking for the oven-timer, the camera whirling around her in dizzying 360-degree turns, to Robyn and her husband having whispered worried pow-wows in the corner, as Krisha peeks at them anxiously. As the day progresses, it becomes clear that the family has clashing opinions of Krisha. She spills the roasting tray and the perfectly roasted turkey lands heavily on the kitchen floor. It's amazing just watching her, and Shults gives us multiple still moments where the camera stares at her profile, her reflection in the mirror, her face gazing out a window. Robyn refuses to allow her to join the table and takes her out of the room.
Posted Feb 23, 2010 The ending could have been explained in a bit better manner but director Ravikanth wraps it up in a quick time and the emotional angle is missed during this time. The movie is all about her face. She doesn't look like a Hollywood actress playing at being an addict. When Krisha stands in the kitchen, wild-eyed amid all these human sights and sounds, you see a woman overwhelmed by life itself, as well as a movie that is an expressionistic tour de force. She then goes downstairs to find the rest of the family enjoying a toned-down version of Thanksgiving dinner without her. She really is "heartbreak incarnate."
