The best part is that a lot of these techniques are similar to R&B, pop, and rock piano techniques, so it's a great training for anyone wanting to learn how to play in a various contemporary keyboard styles.This is not a book for beginners. You do not have to play gospel to learn from this DVD. I love the fact that that she took the time to pour into the new gospel pianist. The lighting is not the greatest, but the combination of her straight-fingered style and overhead camera angles make up for it so that you can really see everything she's doing.Don't waist your money! I love it. Let me tell you, Mrs. Caffie-Austin is amazing! The author states in the intro that the book is intended for the advanced player with good sight reading skills. Disabling it will result in some disabled or missing features.

You'll find arrangements of gospel tunes, but in my experience few of them capture that energy you hear from Mahalia Jackson or others. This woman is a master of her art and does a great job of conveying information and musical structures that are, currently, over my head.
I've had years of formal classical piano instruction, but gospel is the only music that makes me cry. It is mostly about chord theory and application of chord theory. the type of harmony is different then jazz harmony I'm really excited about getting into it.
