how to tell if it's veneer or laminate

When describing the furniture from our shop on our website, we try to remember to tell you, if we can, about the kind of wood that was used to make the piece, as well as a bit of information about the finish. Is there anyway to tell the difference BEFORE I begin? Any piece with side grain on all 6 sides is either laminated or veneered.

Hello just wondering what type of wood is acceptable to repurpose for sale?
