The tail is “there,” yet quick and maneuverable, as well as supportive through deep, high speed slashes where you rely on its strength, and the nose has never given me the “folding” feeling that some other decks have. It feels stable at speed and it feels like it wants you to go faster on it – but it gives you the confidence to do so.Not that easy to handle cruising slowly on it and playing around – but when you ride it fast and bomb, this board is super fun.On uneven bumpy chundery type terrain, the Billy Goat could be pretty unforgiving if you were off your game. Scary. 2019 sizes are the same as the 2018 sizes.The Billy Goat is a board for those that like to charge the mountain at speed and who like to really lay into a good low carve.You will want to be on your game with this board, so it’s certainly for advanced riders, with good technique who can exploit the extra power that this board can provide. By that, I mean it’s not a highly-reactive spring that wants to bounce you around, but rather a beefy power-pop that will launch you to the moon, yet keep you quite solid and grounded in the meantime, like a freight train. The Gnu Beast is new for 2014 and offers a true freeride board to their line which is nice because most of their line is all twins. In fresh snow, it floats like a powder board, with the heart of both a freestyle and freeride deck at the same time. On groomed/packed snow, it has a very familiar “normal” board feeling, but still retains the benefits of a truly directional shape in terms of holding a steady downhill rhythm, flowing through turns, entering/exiting carves, busting through/over chopped up snow, etc. It still rides like it did back then. Other than that the binding is light, strong and responsive. Some might interpret that as a “jack of all trades, master of none,” but if you ask me, this is a master of all, even if you have a quiver. I wouldn’t ride any longer than 154 with your specs. Of course all boards have rockered tip and tail after the contact points, but as far as I can tell C3 doesn’t usually have rocker before the contact points – at least nothing significant. Now, if you’re used to riding longer, then that comes into play as well, and that can be adjusted but purely based on specs and assuming you’re a relatively advanced rider I would say 152 to 154 for this type of board would be a good range to look at. But since you like carving and riding fast going to the long end of your range is a good idea. The GNU Billy Goat is an aggressive, directional twin snowboard that is made to carve just as well as it floats in pow. Of course the 159 Billy Goat would also be better in powder because it’s longer (more surface area). In soft natural snow and powder, the smooth & slight early-rise nose stays afloat without much effort at all (as long as you don’t ride super slow!) The GNU Billy Goat shortest length is 159cm and it has a long edge of 1200mm. This allows the regular-camber profile to have a slightly smoother entry point, meaning enhanced float and flow, and smooth-riding, without feeling like anything but regular camber.Also to note – the “freeride geometry” (I bring this up because of the Flight Attendant connection) is based on the idea that the overall board shape is tapered & set back, but because of where the early-rise starts, the edge that is touching groomed snow resembles a more twin-like feeling.
