I will actually be attempting a headboard later on this summer. My recommendation is if anyone is considering buying an upholstered headboard, make it yourself!
She did have to attach it to a wooden frame but she didn't have to drill the holes. You need it loose in order to create the pleats once you work on the diagonal holes.
Or, if you're feeling crafty, you can make a tufted headboard yourself. I just made cushions for my outdoor sofa and spent a fortune on the petroleum based foam. I'm hoping to make one sooner rather than later :)This is fabulous! We made ours in a similar shape, but without the tufting. The greatest difficulty was finding the nail-head trim, as neither Hobby Lobby, Michael's, nor the home improvement stores carried it. slowly cut out the headboard. Thanks for sharing.Wow...amazing! You want to be sure you are pleased with the shape and placement on the wall before you cut your wood and upholster. You will want to use a hi-loft batting (a nice thick one, or you could double up) that is cut 12" bigger all around than your headboard. I don't have need for a headboard right now but would totally try it. I was surprised it came out so nice, lol. We do not have a headboard, which I hate. You did an awesome job on the tutorial too! You do such a great job of making these intimidating projects accessible for us mere mortals! This part was time consuming as I wanted to shape the hole as carefully as I could. I "found" a piece of plywood, framed, in brand new condition out for trash pick-up in a very nice neighborhood.

Alternately, you can attach "legs" to the headboard and screw the "legs" to the boxspring bed frame if you are using one. You'll need to measure your bed to figure out your sizing. That looks really smart - and I too, love your bedding. Maybe more? Oh my God, I never knew the headboards had names. Love the fabric you chose! But this, I could totally do!

Guide the button deep into the hole with your fingers while pulling the thread taut in the back. I haven't ever made my own headboard, but I have recovered a tufted headboard. The first thing you'll want to do is measure your space and find the right size headboard for you. She said NO don't do that!i've been meaning to get back to your blog for awhile now. This definitely inspires me to make one. Sand any really rough edges and clean off all dust from the wood. I can just see myself drilling holes and hanging hooks and then the darn thing is crooked! I would love to see an example of one finished and tutorial! Lay your pattern on the wall and secure it with some painters tape to double check your design against the bed. The headboard is beautiful and I love the colors that you're using.
