Becuase there aren't holes the whole way down, you don't have that much flexibility on how you want the shelves.

I use it to hold sweaters so not really heavy things, but seems reasonably stable. These doors were much more than I expected. All the stuff that I had stored in cardboard boxes on open shelfs are now neatly out of site and easily accessable.
