There's an owl in the shower

Regardless of where one stands on issues, this book illustrates that getting to know problems in a personal, hands on way often changes how we think.I like to read this book with my class because we dissect owl pellets and it helps the students understand a little bit about barred owls. The town is split between the loggers and the environmentalists.

The birds are endangered, which means loggers, like Mr. Watson, are no longer allowed to cut down trees.It doesn’t make sense to Borden.

!This book has half-developed multiple viewpoints, and the only person with a character arc is the dad...so, not very appealing to middle grade readers.I read and enjoyed this in 5th grade, and have been trying to remember the name of it for probably the past decade, only to finally stumble across it today by accident.

The book is about a boy named Borden who finds an owl and he thinks it's a barred owl but's it's really a spotted owl.I wont tell you anymore so you better read it …

Just finished reading this one aloud with both kids.

I'm glad that Borden and his family decided to come together to help the owlet.

This book was a little heavy-handed with environmentalism, tugging at heart-strings over the fate of a family of spotted owls, but it would still serve as a useful book for discussing both sides of environmental stewardship and the need for people to have jobs and use natural resources for the benefit of mankind.Great book for grades 3-5.
